Deadly Ambition - Part 1
Collection of short stories from Liane Moriarty, Andrea Mara, and A. R. Torre
Hey, it’s Diego.
I’m going through some tough personal weeks, so my reading time is pretty limited. I decided to pick some short stories instead.
I’m reviewing three stories from the collection called Deadly Ambition, penned by very prolific authors.
You can buy these separately or in a bundle.
Let’s check them out.

Deadly Ambition - Part 1
The Price of Honey by Liane Moriarty
The first entry is not like the others. This one is a sci-fi psychological thriller. Unsurprisingly, the writing is great. We follow a woman who attends her late husband’s funeral, a cutting-edge tech guru. Good set-up and ending. However, it does end a bit abruptly.
The Roommate by Andrea Mara
Domestic thriller set in a small town near Dublin. Great writing throughout. We follow a woman in a successful couple as they watch a TV show where details of the tragedy hit too close to home. This one has a great set-up and ending.
You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone by A. R. Torre
Another domestic thriller, all set in a family home. The writing is not quite Torre’s best, but it’s definitely good. It’s also the most complex of the lot, with three point-of-view characters and a dual timeline. A woman puts herself in danger to save her marriage. A bit of a weird set-up, but it does land the ending quite well!
Latest Updates
The film adaptation of Verity by Colleen Hoover has been delayed from May to October this year. A struggling writer (Dakota Johnson) is hired as a ghostwriter for renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) when she is left unable to write, but her assignment takes a dark turn after discovering chilling autobiographical notes. Josh Hartnett plays the husband.
The Ending Writes Itself by Evelyn Clarke came out on April 7. Evelyn Clarke is the pen name of bestselling author V.E. Schwab in collaboration with screenwriter Cat Clarke. And the book is selling like hot cakes. The premise is as absurd as it sounds fun: Six struggling authors are invited to spend a weekend on a best-selling author’s private Scottish island. But when they arrive, they discover to their shock that he’s dead . . . and his last book is unfinished. And whoever writes the best ending wins a ridiculous amount of money. So yes, murder is very much on the table.
That’s all for this week. See you next time.
